Synopsis: A married couple’s relationship is put in jeopardy when a third party enters the picture as a potential lover.

Tinto Brass is one of last purveyors of Soft-core erotica while most contemporaries’ have abandoned soft-core cinema for the more graphic hard-core films. His films often push the envelope without ever going the vulgar less imaginative route that infests hard-core sex films. Tinto Brass visual eye for capturing beautiful women and a prominent area of their body (the ass) is second to known.

The Voyeur sees Tinto Brass treading familiar ground once again and even though many these explored within the film may feel like déjà vu the end result is something that stands out on its own merits. The core of the film revolves around a jealous husband who also has a strong voyeur fetish. The viewer like the husband instantly become voyeurs from the get go as the camera leers and points our eyes to many visually tantalizing images.

Acting wise no one really stands out. All the women featured very attractive and curvy. I found the film’s ending predictable. The film moves along briskly with rarely a dull moment. With the two things that stood out for me in The Voyeur were the Flashback scenes and a scene where the son watches the nurse and his father fooling around through a stained glass window. Riz Ortolani supplies yet another memorable score that is seductive and playful. Ultimately The Voyeur may not be one of Tinto Brass’s best films and yet the end result of highly entertaining sex romp.

The BluRay:

The Voyeur comes on a 25 GB single layer BluRay. The film is presented in a 1080 progressive widescreen. This brand new transfer greatly improves upon the source used for Cult Epics two previous home video releases for this film. Colors have never looked more vibrant and when it comes to image clarity things have never looked better. Also there are no issues with DNR or compression.

This release comes with two audio tracks, a Dolby Digital stereo mix in Italian and a Dolby Digital stereo mix in English. Both audio mixes are in great shape as they are always sound clear and robust when they need too. Range wise these audio mixes get the job done. Also included with this release are removable English subtitles.

Extras for this release include, a photo gallery for the film and an interview with Tinto Brass (23 minutes 51 seconds, in English).

Topics discussed in the interview include, the novel which the film is based on, the look of the film, the score, the director’s cut of the film and other production related topics.

Rounding out the extras are trailers for Monamour, Kick the Cock, Cheeky!, Private and Black Angel. Overall The Voyeur makes its way to Blu-Ray via a solid HD upgrade from Cult Epics.
