Synopsis: After her husband is abducted by pirates, the wife of an ambassador puts together a motley crew of mercenaries for hire to help her rescue her husband.
The narrative is slow moving and if you are looking for anything remotely sexual, look elsewhere. The characters which populate this film are just as bland as the fairly routine plot which is loosely propped up by a series of action sequences, which are about this film’s only redeeming quality.
Another area in which this production falls flat on its face are the performances from its entire cast, who are all devoid of any charisma and all look like they would rather be somewhere else. And it should come as no surprise that for many of the actors / actresses that this is their one and only film credit. At least the film provides some eye candy via its two leading ladies Anita Rinaldi, an actress known more for her pornographic films and Venere Torti, in her first and only film role to date. Unfortunately they spend more screen time clothed, then in their birthday suits.
Though the film makes good on its promise that there will be pirates, it fails to deliver when it comes to the sexiness that is alluded to in the film’s Anglicized title ‘Sexy Pirates’. Ultimately Sexy Pirates is a far cry from the quality smut that Joe D’Amato’s best erotic themed films are known for.
The DVD:
One 7 Movies presents Sexy Pirates in a 1.33:1 full frame aspect ratio. Judging by the framing and that the image never looks cramped. This is most likely the film’s intended aspect ratio or at the very least an open matte presentation. This transfer appears to have been sourced from a video source. Colors are inconsistent, black levels look weak and image tends to lack detail.
This release comes with one audio option, a Dolby Digital stereo mix in Italian and removable English subtitles have been included. The audio generally sounds flat and there is background noise that varies in degree throughout. It should be noted that the English subtitles have a few grammatical errors.
This release comes with no extra content. Overall Sexy Pirates gets a mediocre audio / video presentation from One 7 Movies.
