Other films that are referenced latter in the film include Evil Dead, Re-Animator and Taxi Driver, the “are you talking to me” moment. Barbra aka the Sexy Killer may not be the most focused student at her school and yet there is an artistry and precision to her kills. Later on the plot introduces a love interest for Barbara, a young man named Tomás who ends up inventing a machine that has the ability reads Barbra’s victim’s final memories. This machine plays an important part in the film’s final act as it ends up having deadly side effects.
Visually the film is a stylish affair that doesn’t miss a beat. All of the kill scenes in the film are bloody and a few a very brutal. At the center of what makes this film so damn enjoyable is its lead actress Macarena Gómez (Dagon) in the role of Barbra the Sexy Killer. Not only does she flawlessly sell the sexy aspect of her character, she more than holds her own as an imposing killer despite her petite body size. One of the more amusing aspects of the Barbra character is her matter of fact way of letting everyone know that she is the Campus Killer and of course no one believes her. The bulk of the film is most definitely told in a tongue and cheek way with many moments where the Barbra character looks into the camera and addresses the viewer. Ultimately Sexy Killer is highly entertaining romp that effortlessly mixes horror and comedy.
Momentum Pictures presents Sexy Killer in an anamorphic widescreen that preserves the film’s 2.35:1 aspect ratio. This is a strong transfer that has robust and nicely saturated colors, healthy looking flesh tones and details look crisp throughout.
This release comes with one audio option a Dolby Digital stereo mix in Spanish and removable English subtitles have been provided. The subtitles are easy to follow and error free. The audio mix sounds clean and balanced throughout.
Outside of a few trailers that have nothing to do with this (except that they were also released by Momentum Pictures), there is no extra content related to the main feature. While the lack of extra content is disappointing, this is not the as much of letdown as the tacky cover art used for this DVD release. Bad cover aside, Momentum Pictures gives Sexy Killer a solid audio / video presentation.
