Sex and Astrology is one of six pseudo sexual themed documentaries directed by Matt Cimber, a filmmaker who is most remembered for directing a trio of blacksploitation films in 1970’s. Other notable films that he directed include, The Witch Who Came from the Sea and Butterfly.

The plot for Sex and Astrology revolves around the concept that there is an undeniable link between astrology and human sexuality. And to prove its theory this film does through the various astrological signs and gives an example for each one.

Needless to say this film is not much more than a series of sexual themed moments that are loosely held together by a flimsy narrative. Also the majority of the participants in this film are dressed in Rome / Greek looking attire and the bulk of the film takes place in central location.

Visually the film does a good job making the subject matter look more interesting. And when it comes to the sexually themed moments don’t except much more then fellatio and naked bodies dry humping each other. There are no money shots here! Also when it comes to the flow of narrative there are far too many lulls and things tend to drag.

Sex and Astrology is the weakest of the three Matt Cimber’s sexual themed documentaries. A better introduction into these films would be Vinegar Syndrome’s The Sensually Liberated Female / He and She double feature DVD release.

The DVD:

Vinegar Syndrome presents Sex and Astrology in its intended 1.33:1 aspect ratio. The transfer for this release was scanned and restored in 2k from 16mm vault elements. The source used for this transfer is in great shape as colors and flesh tones look accurate and details look crisp throughout. Also there are no issues with edge enhancement or compression.

This release comes with one audio option, a Dolby Digital mono mix in English. The audio sounds clean, clear and balanced.

Extras for this release are limited to a trailer for the film (2 minutes 39 seconds).

Overall Sex and Astrology get a strong audio / video presentation from Vinegar Syndrome.
