Synopsis: A key bridged that is guarded by occupying Japanese soldiers is targeted for demolition by Chinese freedom fighters.

Railroad Tigers was co-written and directed by Ding Sheng, whose other notable films include, Little Big Soldier, Police Story: Lockdown and Saving Mr. Wu.

Instead of building up a film around Jackie Chan, Railroad Tigers follows the pattern that has become all too common in Jackie Chan’s most recent films, an ensemble driven narrative. And though the narrative finds a good balance between the more dramatic moments and action set pieces. The more dramatic moments tend to suffer at times, due to the characters lack of depth. Fortunately, all is not lost and when it comes to this film’s action set pieces this is one area where the film delivers in spades. With the film’s high-octane finale offering a very satisfying conclusion.

As mentioned before the characters are one dimensional and the performances are best described as serviceable. Jackie Chan delivers a good, albeit not memorable performance that has brief glimpses of the type of things that he is best known for. This film’s most memorable performance is Hiroyuki Ikeuchi (Ip Man) in the role of a high-ranking commander of Japanese army, who takes the freedom fighters constant meddling all too personal.
