Synopsis: When a miscarriage puts a strain on their relationship, a husband takes his distraught wife away for a romantic weekend at a secluded cottage in the woods.

We live in a time where so many have become jaded, when it comes to violence in cinema and this has made it more difficulty for films to truly frighten their audiences. Fortunately, every now and then comes along a film like The Perfect Husband that gets back to basics in regards to the things that we cherish the most.

The film features a strong premise, a wife who recently suffered a miscarriage and her inability to get over this trauma. The narrative is well constructed and pacing is never an issues as the film does a great job letting each new revelation to sink in. When it comes to the two main characters there is just enough back-story revealed to keep the narrative moving forward. And one of this films strengths is how it builds an air of mystery with its two main characters due to the aforementioned basic back-stories.

Visually this film does not disappoint and in the grand tradition of Italian cinema this film excels when it comes to the more violent moments. And when it comes to the depiction of violence in this film, it is sufficiently bloody and at times borderline sadistic.

Anchoring this film are strong performances two leads Gabriella Wright in the role of the wife Viola and Bret Roberts in the role of the husband Nicola. Also they are both convincing in their respective roles, especially Wright who is without a doubt this film greatest asset. Overall The Perfect Husband is a tension filled thriller that saves its most shocking revelation for its finale.

The BluRay:

The Perfect Husband comes on a 25 GB single layer BluRay. The film is presented in a 1080 progressive widescreen. Colors and flesh tones look accurate, details look crisp and there are no issues with DNR or compression.

This release comes with one audio option, a DTS-HD 5.1 mix in English and removable English SDH subtitles have been included with this release. Dialog is always clear, everything sounds balanced and the more ambient aspects of the soundtrack are well represented.

Extras for this release include, Backstage Footage (25 minutes 53 seconds) and a short film titled Il marito perfetto (40 minutes 3 seconds, in Italian with English subtitles). This short film was later expanded into the feature film The Perfect Husband. Rounding out the extras are trailers for Fever, Observance and Der Bunker. Overall The Perfect Husband gets a solid release from Artsploitation Films.
