Synopsis: A remote village needs to recruit some nubile young women to augment the sole remaining and aging pearl diver. The local pickup artist (‘young suitor’ in the credits) goes out and finds five sweet young things: college girl, stewardess, photographer, soldier, and prostitute to become the new labor force of the population. No one else seems to do anything much except drink and have sex with anyone at hand. And eventually sponsor a G-String Festival for no particular reason.
This is a colorful romp, a sex comedy that is actually funny, and certainly contains lots of nudity and simulated coupling. The priest seems to exist solely to bestow the ‘blessings of heaven’ upon young maidens. But you know, more mature women have needs as well. Before you can say ‘Triangle’, emotional complications ensue for the few characters that actually possess any.
Perhaps the light-hearted nature of the film is it’s strongest offense, as the women are exploited and stupid / naive enough to keep coming back for more of the same. Few of the characters have any redeeming characteristics, SPOILER ALERT: though one does and at the end she finds the moral fortitude to go back home. Everybody else stays behind and parties.
The DVD:
Nice color and clarity in another good transfer, but this one appears to be interlaced. The subtitles are humorous and help explain the many and divers [pun intended] situations. The original trailer is included which is all about the sex / nudity aspect but nevertheless manages to include major spoilers, so be forewarned.
On the surface a light-hearted and breezy sex farce with beautiful young women. But don’t look for any deeper meaning because it is there and it’s not very pretty, like pimples on a butt.
