The Roman Porno genre was launched by Nikkatsu studios in 1971 and for the next eighteen years they would continue to release a steady slate of titles. By the time Nikkatsu studios would withdraw from making Roman Porno’s in 1988. They had released almost one thousand Roman Porno’s.This DVD contains original Nikkatsu theatrical trailers for the following features:

My first exposure to Nikkatsu’s Roman Porno’s was via the Angel Guts series. And since its arrival on DVD 2005 the amount of English language friendly releases has been slowly but surely increasing. Impulse Pictures plans to release about two dozen Nikkatsu Roman Porno’s. Some of the choice films who’s trailers have been included in this collection include Hidehiro Ito’s Debauchery, Yasuharu Hasebe’s Rape!, Toshiharu Ikeda’s Sex Hunter and Yukihiro Sawada’s Race Across the Drenched Wasteland. A few of the more outrageous trailers include Katsuhiko Fujii’s New Company Girls: 9 to 5 (a spoof of the Jane Fonda film), Masaru Konuma’s Sex Fiend (a superhero inspired comedy) and Tatsumi Kumashiro’s Painful Bliss! A Surprise Twist (a film about a transvestite who gets caught up in a love triangle. This collection of trailers does a superb job showcasing just how diverse the Roman Porno genre was.

The DVD:

All the trailers are presented in an anamorphic widescreen that preserves their original aspect ratios. All the trailers are in very good shape and with only a few trailers that exhibit any print damage (which is minimal).

This release comes with one audio option, a Dolby Digital mono mix in Japanese and removable English subtitles have been included. The audio sounds clear and consistent throughout.

Extras for this release include a short film titled ‘Ryoko’s Lesbian Flight’ (29 minutes – 4:3 full frame, in Japanese with English subtitles), a trailer for ‘Ryoko’s Lesbian Flight’ that precedes the short film and a booklet with liners notes from ‘Behind the Pink Curtain’ author Jasper Sharp. The plot for ‘Ryoko’s Lesbian Flight’ revolves around two stewardess who are about to leave on a flight the next day. The evening before they leave one of the girls surprises the other by showing up at her place. Their sexual rendezvous is interrupted when the boyfriend of one of the girl’s shows up looking for some action. It is a pretty basic story that spends 2/3′s of the short film revolving around the two main sex scenes. Overall this is a solid DVD release that should be in every fan of Nikkatsu Roman Porno’s collection.
