Hardcore film review. NOTE: If you are interested in Ed Wood but not in another release of the film Necromania itself, please read on anyway.
Necromania is mostly known as Ed Wood’s (Bride of the Monster, Plan 9 From Outer Space) last film as director and was released in softcore and hardcore versions then considered a lost film for decades. He wrote the source novel “The Only House”, the screenplay, and directed. It was his last released film (’71) but was produced in 1970 as evidenced by Rene Bond’s appearance prior to her boob job. As a film it is interesting in that Ed Wood way by virtue of theme and the smatterings of dialog.
Monologue by Maria Arnold: Not all react to the treatment successfully. There are those that will never find satisfaction in the universal language . . . SEX . . .They can never return to a world which will reject them. They are happy here.
This release presents the softcore version in excellent quality from a new transfer and includes the alternate hardcore scenes as xxxtras in lesser condition (probably from their VHS release masters). The softcore version works better.
Other extras present three newly transferred films with Maria Arnold. PLEASURE BETWEEN HEAVEN AND HELL is a loop carrier of little interest excepting Maria Arnold’s segment with a photographer outdoors in the Ozarks being voyeured upon by three inbred hillbillies. Next up we see the film that aforementioned segment was culled from, OAKIE MAID which also features Rene Bond (also pre-boob job). This is a lot of fun and an actual ‘porno film’ with plot, characterization, and slapstick comedy that they don’t make anymore [and seldom ever did].
But wait, next up is the lost FOR LOVE OF MONEY based upon Ed Wood’s novel ‘The Sexecutives’. This is truly one of the lost classics of the blue movie. Alpha Video credits it as a ’76 release, but indications point to production circa ’67. Maria looks younger than in Necromania (though she’s actually more appealing in the latter as a MILF type). The dialog, and there is lots of it, is obviously straight from Wood’s source novel. The stud of the film has a bend in the end of his equipment, so we’ll call him ‘Captain Hook’. Captain Hook is a scumbag who seduces women, photographs them in the act (with him), and then blackmails them for money and sex. Maria seeks the help of a private detective but has no money left from her husbands allowance, so pays him off like the a-hole he is (hint, hint). This film is pure Ed Wood though we may never know the true extent of his involvement.
Overall this is an incredible presentation (somewhat surprising from Alpha Video) worthwhile for Necromania and Oakie Maid but essential because of For Love And Money; a certified jaw-dropper no-budget indie porn masterpiece if there ever was one.
Note: For Love Of Money’s sound synchronization goes out by a few seconds at about the 40 minute mark due to a splice during transfer. Just grin and bear it, it’s worth it.
Truth in advertising department: The cover and DVD label shows Rene Bond with big tits, but she doesn’t have them in the DVD content.
