Synopsis: A movie studio struggles to complete its latest film due to its two stars being at constant odds with each other.

Matinee Idol was directed by Henri Pachard whose other notable films include, Babylon Pink, The Devil in Miss Jones 2 and Blame it on Ginger. The screenplay for Matinee Idol was written and produced by David F. Friedman (The Defilers, Love Camp 7) who also appears in the film as a producer.

The premise for this film takes the Golden Age of Hollywood and their studio system and gives it an adult themed makeover. And the narrative revolves around two aging stars whose working relationship had always been on the verge of collapse. From there the narrative interjects two new characters, who are are groomed by the two aging stars as possible replacements for there counterparts. Unfortunately for the two aging stars, some of the best laid plans do not always end well.

From a casting perspective, this film features several well known faces. Most notably its stars, John Leslie (Never Sleep Alone) in the role of Lance Hardy and Jesie St. James (Her Wicked Ways) in the role of Linda Hand. They have a tremendous amount of onscreen chemistry and they are utterly convincing as two feuding stars. Other notable cast members include, Kay Parker (Taboo) in the role of the producers secretary, Colleen Brennan (Alice Goodbody) in the role of one of Linda’s finds who specializes in making plaster replica’s of penis’s, Herschel Savage (Debbie Does Dallas) and Angel (Too Naughty to Say No) in the role of the two up and coming stars that are being groomed by the two lead characters.

Though there are eight sex scenes, it should be noted that one of these scenes is strictly soft-core. The sex scenes are well executed and they all deliver an ample amount of heat. With the standout sex scenes being, a scene where Lance Hardy is given the task of screen-testing Angel’s character. And a scene where Linda seduces her pool boy.

Colors and flesh tones look accurate, details look sharp, black levels remain strong throughout and there are no issue with compression.
