Synopsis: A wealthy heiress named Sandra Chase (Marilyn Chambers) remembers a series of recent sexual encounters.

Insatiable was made during a time when storylines still mattered in adult cinema and some of the bigger budget films even had some really impressive production design. Insatiable was directed by veteran television producer Stu Segall under the pseudonym Gordon Daniels. His direction is top tier through out the film especially the way they used soft focus photography in various scenes. He directs the sex scenes and the acting moments equally.

Insatiable stars Marilyn Chambers who during her first stint in adult cinema during the 1970’s and early 1980’s was the first adult performer to have any mainstream acting success with her roles in films like David Cronenberg’s Rabid. Chambers never looked better then she does in Insatiable. This film the best of her career and it is only fitting that she was at the top of the adult cinema world when she had her first sex scene with the legendary John Holmes who was already in decline due to his drug addiction.

From the get go Insatiable moves at a fever pace with its interesting story that is just enough and its evenly balanced sex scenes. The opening credits are also interesting since they include clips from sex scenes we will see later in the film and by putting them at the front of the film this also helps soften since the first sex scene doesn’t occur until nearly twelve minute into the film. The film has five sex scenes four of which feature Marilyn Chambers. There is one lesbian scene, one blow job scene and three boy/girl scenes including the films climatic orgy.

Ultimately Insatiable shows that adult cinema can be something more then just sex films and in the twenty six years since its original release the film has not lost any of its power to seduce its viewers.

The DVD:

Insatiable is presented in a full frame aspect ratio that retains the films original aspect ratio. This transfer was sourced from immaculate source materials and the final product really looks exceptional. Colors are vivid and black levels are solid with details look razor sharp in the background and foreground. This release easily beats all previous versions of this film that have been released on home video to date. There are no problems with artifacts, compression or edge enhancement. This transfer is without a doubt the best looking one from Media Blasters Raincoat DVD line.

This release comes with two audio options a Dolby Digital 5.1 remix and the films original Dolby Digital mono mix both in English. There is not that much difference between the two mixes with the slight edge going to the new 5.1 remix that gives the film a more spacious sound. There are no problems with distortion or any other sound defects.

Extras for this release are spread across two DVD’s.

Extras for the first disc include four trailers Debbie Does Dallas, Neon Nights, Babylon Pink and Devil in Miss Jones.  All of these tittles are currently available or scheduled for released on DVD from Media Blasters. The main extras for the first disc are two audio commentaries. The first audio commentary is with the star of Insatiable actress Marilyn Chambers who vividly remembers in great detail every minuet detail about the production. Some standout comments she reveals are how she sang the films theme song, working with John Holmes and that the films budget was about five hundred thousand dollars. The second audio commentary is with actress and adult film historian Gloria Leonard who besides discussing the film Insatiable also spends a great deal of time discussing the differences in the modern adult cinema verse the classic era of the 1970’s and early 1980’s. Even though she never appeared in Insatiable her comments are more then worthwhile and informative. This audio commentary with Gloria Leonard previously appeared on I-Candy’s DVD release for Insatiable.

Uncut Version
TV Version

Extras on disc two include a trailer for Insatiable, a brief deleted scene that comes with no sound of Marilyn Chambers who is pleasuring herself and a photo gallery with thirty two images. Other extras include a fourteen minute segment which includes footage from the Pussycat theatre premier of Insatiable and this footage is narrated by Marilyn Chambers who describes in great detail the events of this day. Also included with this release is the seventy one minute cable TV version of Insatiable which at only six minutes shorter then the uncut hardcore version uses a unique way to cover the hardcore moments by going to split screen to cover up the naught bits. This print looks soft and less colorful then the print used for the hardcore version. The audio is in a Dolby Digital English mono. The main extra included on disc two is a thirty seven minute interview with Marilyn Chambers who discusses her early fame as the mom on the Ivory Snow box, Meeting the Mitchell brothers and how her subsequent entry into the world of hardcore cinema,  why she left and then returned to hardcore and so much more.

Insatiable finally gets the definitive DVD release that it has always deserved. Not only does the film look and sound better then ever it also comes with a wealth of insightful extras, highly recommended.
