Synopsis: A housewife’s home is breached by a sexual deviant pretending to be a door to door salesman.

When it comes to adult cinema, it’s main intentions are to arose and shock. With the emphasis on the former. And though shock value has never been an area where adult cinema has shied away from. There was a time during the 1970’s, when many adult films thrust violence into the forefront. And these in your face exhibitions in brutality offered an alternative avenue for obtaining arousal.

Content wise, The Intrusion is an in your face film that has all the ingredients one would want or expect from a Roughie themed adult film. The majority of the sex scenes featured characters who submit to a more dominate character. And though said, character has the upper hand. He stills uses various objects like a switchblade to inflict fear and pain.

Outside of a strong setup, the film’s narrative (or lack thereof) is essentially propped up by a series of sex scenes. Unfortunately, there is a crudeness to the sex scenes that keeps them from ever becoming erotic. And because of this, said sex scenes never reach the fever pitch of sexual depravity that is obtained by more formidable similar themed films like, Water Power, Hot Summer in the City and Femmes de Sade.

The DVD:

The Intrusion is presented in its intended aspect ratio and the transfer for this release was scanned and restored in 2k from the 35mm archival element. The source used does exhibit some print related damage, fortunately it is minor and never intrusive. And when compared to previous home video releases for this film. The transfer for this release is far and away the best this film has looked to date on home video.

This release comes with one audio option, a Dolby Digital mono mix in English. Dialog comes through clearly and everything sounds balanced. It should be noted that range wise this audio mix is very limited.

Extras for this release include, a trailer for the film (2 minutes 56 seconds) and an interview with actor Michael Gaunt titled, Becoming the Intruder (18 minutes 31 seconds).

Topics discussed in the interview include, his origins as an actor, his audition for The Intrusion, why he adopted the stage name of Michael Gaunt, his thoughts about his performance in The Intrusion, onset memories, issues related to shooting sex scenes, actress Kim Pope, how the film was shot in 2 days, the first time he saw the film in a theater and his thoughts about the film.

Overall The Intrusion gets a strong release from Vinegar Syndrome.
