Synopsis: A scientist disappears into thin air while on a business and the uncertainty of what happened to him leads to his wife taking her own life. After suffering the tragic loss of his two parents a young man is given the chance of reuniting with them when his grandfather asks him to help in a time travel experiment. Will he choose the life he mourns or will he choose to remain in the new life he has created?
Just when you thought that every avenue of Time Travel had been explored in cinema. Along comes a film like I’ll Follow You Down that grounds its subject matter by putting the focus more on the character’s and the choices they make, instead of bogging the narrative with the science behind time travel. And without a doubt it is the choices that said characters are forced to make that is this film’s most durable asset. Also this is not you run of the mill Sci-Fi film and anyone expecting elaborate special effects they should look elsewhere.
From a production stand point the visuals look great throughout and there never is an issues with pacing. As mentioned before this is character driven film and in this regards the performances from top to bottom are all very good. This film standout performance comes from Haley Joel Osment (The Sixth Sense) in the role of Erol the son of the missing scientist. Two other performances of note are Gillian Anderson (‘X-Files’) in the role of Erol’s mother, Rufus Sewell (Dark City) in the role of Erol’s father and Victor Garber (‘Alias’) in the role of Erol’s grandfather. Ultimately I’ll Follow You Down is satisfying mix of melodrama and Sci-Fi.
I’ll Follow You Down comes on a 25 GB single layer BluRay. The film is presented in a 1080 progressive widescreen. Contrast and black levels look very good throughout, details look sharp and there are no issues with compression.
This release comes with two audio options, a DTS-HD 5.1 mix in English and a Dolby Digital stereo mix in English. Both audio mixes sound, clean, clear and balanced throughout. This is a dialog driven film and outside of this film’s score range wise things are never going to sound that dynamic. Also included with this release are removable English subtitles.
Extras for this release include a trailer for the film, three deleted scenes and a thirteen minutes ‘Behind the Scenes’ featurette that covers various production relate topics. Other extras include trailers for other titles also available from Well Go USA. Overall I’ll Follow You Down gets a strong release from Well Go USA.
Note: This film is also being released by Well Go USA on DVD.
