Synopsis: Tyrone comes home to LA when his brother dies, apparently from suicide. The cat doesn’t buy it and keeps beating the bush until he discovers the truth.
 
Based upon Get Carter, sourced from the novel Jack’s Return Home, the biggest problem with this film is that very little actually happens for the first hour. Just rest assured that the final act is glorious retribution and one of the most over-the-top, sleazy, and violent raps of any blaxplotation film from the golden age.
 
Pam Grier is second billed though she actually has a rather small part. But when she (re)appears in her yellow Mustang convertible things begin to get really groovy, baby. She’s sporting (sprouting?) one of the largest afros in history, and she very much reveals her other large assets. This is almost certainly her best ‘showcase’, because after Coffy and Foxy Brown made her famous she didn’t have to strut her stuff in the nude anymore.
 
Bernie Casey as Tyrone is stoic but unexciting as the lead, much the same as Burt Reynolds in Navajo Joe. So it’s up to the character actors to save the first hour. Sam Law (Truck Turner) is excellent as a used car salesman and family friend while Roger E. Mosley (The Mack) gets his ass whooped time and again. Lisa Moore (Slaughter’s Big Rip Off) is one of several babes that Bernie gets down with in some nitty gritty sex scenes.
