Though this film features all the staples of the martial arts genre that any fan of this genre would want to see. The evolution of the narrative is far from a smooth ride as things tend to follow the usual path that has been taken by countless similar themed films. And at just under two hours the film’s has a few moments that outlast their welcome. Also when it comes to the more dramatic moments this is yet another area that is inconstant. With this film’s action set pieces being the area where this film shines the most. With the film’s finale delivering the goods and then some, as power of the golden cane is finally revealed.
Performance wise there entire are good in their respective roles. With this film’s standout role performance coming from Nicholas Saputra in the role of Elang, he plays a mysterious stranger role where he sits backs at first and does not involve himself until the final. Another performance of note is Eva Celia Latjuba in the role of this film’s protagonist Dara. Her character shows the largest amount of growth. Also the moments between her character and Elang leave the strongest lasting impression. Ultimately The Golden Cane Warrior is a mildly entertaining action film that far too gets bogged down in predictability.
The Golden Cane Warrior comes on a 25 GB single layer BluRay. The film is presented in a 1080 progressive widescreen. Colors and flesh tones look accurate, black levels fare well and details look crisp. Also there are no issues with DNR or compression.
