Synopsis: Lise (Daniela Poggi) a former Nazi death camp prisoner returns to the scene of the crime many years later with her torturer and lover Commandant Conrad von Starker (Adriano Micantoni). Unable to let go of what was done to her Lise recounts via a flashback the atrocities that befell her and the other prisoners. Lise seduces Starker one last time before exacting her revenge.

Gestapo’s Last Orgy is the apex of revolting cinema that all but vanished by the early 1980’s. Gestapo’s Last Orgy was made near the end of the Nazi exploitation cycle while it certainly pushes the boundaries of good taste most of the torture and violence depicted in this film ceases to be shocking since it brings nothing those of us who have seen many of these types of films haven’t seen before. This not to say there are not a few scenes that will turn ones stomach like a woman covering herself in feces and eat them or a dinner table scene where a Jewish girl is placed in dinner dish on the table and then lit on fire. Alberto Baldan Bembo’s score is almost too good and at times it haunting motifs transcend the shocking images.

Visually director Cesare Canevari does a good job balancing plot what there is of it with the films many revolting images. While watching Gestapo’s Last Orgy one gets the feeling that the director was trying to make a more serious film then what ended up on the screen. The main plot of a prisoner and her Nazi captor is almost too similar to the plot from the Nazi exploitation film The Night Porter. Outside of the over the top performances from Adriano Micantoni and Maristella Greco the rest performances are all pretty standard. Ultimately Gestapo’s Last Orgy is one of the last true sleaze epics to come out during exploitations hey day the 1970’s.

The DVD:

Gestapo’s Last Orgy is presented in an anamorphic widescreen that retains the film’s aspect ratio. This release has been sourced from an out dated analog master and the image tends to look soft. Black levels are generally weak, colors fluctuate and there is edge enhancement that varies in degree throughout. Quality wise the transfer is comparable to Media Blasters transfer for their 2007 DVD release.

This release comes with one audio option, a Dolby Digital mono mix in English. There are no issues with distortion, dialog is easy to follow and everything sounds balanced. Though range wise things to tend to sound rather limited.

Extras for this release include an English language trailer for the film (3 minutes 40 seconds – anamorphic widescreen) and a featurette titled ‘A Brief History of Sadiconazista’ with film historian Dr. Marcus Stiglegger and author who has written several books on Nazisploitation films (36 minutes 32 minutes – anamorphic widescreen). He provides a well-rounded overview of the genre that covers genres origins, its rise in popularity and its legacy. Overall Intervision Picture Corp. gives Gestapo’s Last Orgy a serviceable audio / video presentation.
