Synopsis: A sexy teacher becomes the object of desire of all the boys and men at the school that she is substituting at.

Desirable Teacher was directed by Marino Girolami, whose other notable films include Lover Boy and The Virgin Wife (both starring Edwige Fenech) and Zombi Holocaust. Desirable Teacher is the first in a series of film featuring an adolescent character named Pierino. The screenplay for Desirable Teacher was written by Gianfranco Clerici, whose other notable screenwriting credits include The Bloodstained Butterfly, Don’t Torture a Duckling, Jungle Holocaust, Emanuelle around the World, Cannibal Holocaust, House on the Edge of the Park and The New York Ripper. The score for Desirable Teacher was composed by Berto Pisano and some of his more notable scores include Naughty Nun, Strip Nude for Your Killer, Malabimba: The Malicious Whore, Patrick Still Lives, Burial Ground: The Nights of Terror and A Policewoman in New York.

Even though there is a ‘Desirable Teacher’ that features prominently in the plot. She is not the main character in the film. The main character in this film is a teenage boy named Pierino who spends every moment pranking everyone who comes in contact with him (except the ‘Desirable Teacher’ character. As the film progresses it becomes crystal clear that Pierino is set in his ways and even when he is threatened with explosion from school he takes things up a notch. In between pranks, Pierino lusts after the substitute teacher. At one point he even makes a bet with his classmates that he will be the first to go to bed with her. He concocts every imaginable way to achieve his goal along the way. The most memorable moments in this film are the scenes where Pierino sets up ways to injure an uglier teacher so the much more attractive substitute teacher will take her place.

The film jumps right into things with no back-story or character development and yet the film somehow manages to keeps things interesting enough tell the very end. The humor in this film often retreads familiar ground covered in other Italian comedies from this era. Despite its familiarity everything works as well as its does because of the performance of Alvaro Vitali in the role of Pierino. At first while it looks odd that he is playing teenage boy, especially when he looks at least twice as old as his classmates. There is a moment in the film which explains why this might be. He tells the substitute teacher that he is a repeater and that he has repeated this class six times before. As the film progresses this minor issues quickly fades into the background as Alvaro Vitali does a remarkable job portraying the mischievous Pierino. One other performance of note is Michela Miti in the role of the substitute teacher. She definitely sells the part she has been cast in as she has an abundance of sex appeal. Alvaro Vitali, Michela Miti and director Marino Girolami would reteam for a sequel titled ‘Pierino Strikes Again’.

The DVD:

Desirable Teacher is presented in an anamorphic widescreen that preserves the film’s original aspect ratio. This transfer has been flagged for progressive playback. Colors, flesh tones and black levels all fare well. There is a mild layer of grain that is present throughout. Also while the image looks generally crisp, there are a few instances where its lacks sharpness.

This release comes with two audio options a Dolby Digital mono mix in English and a Dolby Digital mono mix in Italian (no English subtitles have been provided with this release). The English audio mix, fares better of the two audio as everything sounds clear and balanced throughout. The Italian audio mix is not as clear and at times sounds muffled.

Extras for this release include an Italian language trailer for the film, with no English subtitles (3 minutes 42 seconds – anamorphic widescreen). Overall Desirable Teacher gets a satisfactory audio / video presentation from Mya Communication.
