Synopsis: Weird things are happening to the student body at No Use High School.

Dasepo Naughty Girls was co-written and directed by E.J-Yong (Untold Scandal). The plot for this film is based on the web based series Dasepo. From the opening frames of the Dasepo Naughty Girls the thing that immediately draws you in is its spectacular sense of style. The cinematographer on Dasepo Naughty Girls was Chung-hoon Chung who other notable credits as a cinematographer includes Oldboy, Three… Extremes, Sympathy for Lady Vengeance, I’m a Cyborg, But That’s OK and Thirst.

The main storyline in this film revolves around a young woman known to her classmates as the poor girl. She is an outcast who eventually finds acceptance when she accidentally creates a bizarre dance that becomes all the rage. Along the way she befriends a cross dressing long shark who likes to be called Big Razor Sis. Poor Girl is not the only misfit at No Use High School, there is also a young man named Cy (because he was born with only one eye). He has a sister who exudes beauty of the surface while she is hiding her own deformity. The bulk of the students who are featured prominently in the film come from wealthy families. Besides examining the difficulties of being a teenager, the film also delves a little with the hypocrisy of the class system. Even though there is some ground work laid to lead the characters on their journeys. The plot is kind of a melting pot of ideas that at times feel loosely connected.

While trying to pin point a specific genre in which this film would fit is nearly impossible. The one genre that this film is most Kin with is comedy. Also to say that this film has many bizarre moments is an understatement. Some of the film’s stand out moments include a teacher who has his students whip him because he feels he failed them as a teacher, a father and son who are both pretending to be girls while talking on the internet (only to discover that they were talking to each other) and a scene where Poor Girl and her mentor Big Razor Sis are abducted by a sexual themed cult who want them to dance provocatively. The comedy in the film holds up well as the subjects being explored are universally funny in any language. The film’s also features a few inventive musical numbers for good measure. Performance wise everyone in the cast is exceptional in their respective roles, with the film’s standout performance coming from Ok-bin Kim in the role of Poor Girl. Ultimately Dasepo Naughty Girls is a whimsical film that is filled with great style, superb performances and an abundance of absurdity.
