Coop is awakened in the middle of the night by his friend Max who calls him up and invites himself over. The two friends talk about the party Coop missed early that evening and a girl named Liz who Coop has a crush on. While they are talking Kate who is bored and driving around calls up Max who invites her to come over to Coops. At first Coop is hesitant until he learns that Liz is in the car with Kate. Will Coop finally hook up with Liz or will his fears get in the way once again?
Coop’s Night In is a heartfelt look at young adults and the burdens that come with growing up. Director Joe Burke crafts his most complex story to date that has four solid performances. Derrick Trumbly gives a memorable performance as Max and even though he is not the films lead one can’t but help notice him in every scene he is in. The character of Coop is easy to identify with since most of us have had the same insecurities.
The DVD:
Coop’s Night In is presented in an aspect ratio of about 2.35:1 and colors and flesh tones look accurate. There is no print damage and grain is kept to a minimum. There are no problems with compression or artifact. The black levels are solid through out with an exceptional amount of detail in natural lighting occurs in many scenes.
This release comes with only one audio option an English language track that is presented in a Dolby Digital stereo. The dialog is razor sharp and the music sounds evenly balanced with the rest of the mix. There are no problems with hiss or distortion.
The main extra for this release is a twenty minute making of featurette that gives a full overview of the film from inception through finished product. This DVD that I reviewed is an advanced screener and not the finished product which will also come with other extras including trailers for Coop’s Night In, Disturbance 2013 and Hunter’s Fall and an audio commentary with director Joe Burke and actors Michael Weinberg and Derrick Trumbly.
Overall Coop’s Night In, is an amazing film that I enjoyed immensely and director Joe Burke continues to surprise me with the choices he makes.
