Synopsis: After being framed for murder Lien Ni Chang exacts her revenge by killing all the members of the eight clans. It has been ten years since Cho Yi Hang has seen Lien Ni Chang. He has been waiting for a rare flower to bloom which has the power to end the curse he has put upon her for killing his master. Will Cho Yi Hang be able to break the curse that has been placed upon Lien Ni Chang or will her lust for revenge be to powerful to overcome?

After the success of The Bride with White Hair, a sequel was rushed into production. Even though the story uses the two main characters Cho Yi Hang and Lien Ni Chang from the first film as the foundation of this film, they are not the main focal point of this sequel. This time around the bulk of the story revolves around Cho Yi Hang’s nephew and his bride. Also Lien Ni Chang since being cursed has turned into a man hater and has started a tribe of man hating women who she uses to help her exact her revenge.

The character who is missed the most in this sequel is Cho Yi Hang who only appears at the beginning and in the film’s finale. The lack of screen time for Brigitte Lin and Leslie Cheung who where the main reason the first film worked so well, their reduced roles weaken the sequel’s overall impact greatly. The most surprising asset to this sequel is Christy Chung’s performance as the tom boy Moonlight. Another misstep is how this time around action has become more important than the characters and dramatic aspect’s that are abundant in the first film. Ultimately The Bride with White Hair 2 is an uninspired sequel that diverges away from all the things which made the first film so effective.

The DVD:

The Bride with White Hair 2 is presented in a letterboxed widescreen that retains the film’s original 1.85:1 aspect ratio. Details look crisp throughout. Colors look lively and nicely saturated. Overall this progressive flagged transfer fares well all around.

This release comes with three audio options Mandarin, Cantonese and English. All three audio options are presented in a Dolby Digital stereo. All three audio mixes sound clear and evenly balanced. The Cantonese audio mix is the standout mix of the three. Removable English subtitles have been included.

Extras for this release include trailers for The Bride with White Hair, The Untold Story, Tai Chi 2, Executioners and Organized Crime and Triad Bureau. Other extras include bios/filmographies for Brigitte Lin, Leslie Cheung, Christy Chung and David Wu (all the text is in English).

Overall The Bride with White Hair 2 gets a good audio/video presentation which makes up for its lack of extra content.
