Synopsis: Two individuals work as sex toy product testers, an occupation that mostly involves having sex all day while wearing electrodes and under constant observation by technicians. The male worker can’t get it up, and the female worker is unfulfilled by her new live-in boyfriend, who is a closet transvestite.
This was an ‘X’ rated movie and though it is a softcore sex farce, some of the product testing scenes do raise the eyebrows. The original version (‘The Liberation of Cherry Janowski’) was a somewhat serious attempt to comment on the corruption and hedonism that was destroying personal relationships during the era of free love. The casual tone with which it treats endless causal sex and especially recreational rape is rather shocking today.
The serious ending was excised and replaced with more ‘push the envelope’ sex scenarios as a recruitment aid for people to practice aberrant sex! These snippets of skits include a rape scene with a busty woman in an elevator holding two cups of coffee that she doesn’t want to spill, and [pretend] bestiality with a guy in a gorilla suit.
The DVD:
It appears that a full screen image was zoomed in to create a wide screen presentation (both versions) that suffers from excessive grain. Otherwise it is pretty good for a sex farce filmed in Pennsylvania. Extras include the alternate original version with the more satisfying but far less gratuitous ending.
Though the end result is tedious overall, there are individual scenes that impress. A rapist wearing a phallic nose who tries to rape the transvestite in drag and then calls her/him a Prevert [sic] – if that sounds funny, then you belong in the Booby Hatch.
