Synopsis: A killer under sedation reveals to a doctor the details of his crimes.

Bluebeard was written and directed Soo-youn Lee, who fourteen years ago made his directorial debut with Uninvited.

Content wise, Bluebeard is a psychological thriller plays with your sense of reality and just when you think you have a grasp of the events that are unfolding. This film then further disorientates you by turning everything on its head. Fortunately, no matter how many red herrings that are thrown into the mix. The film’s finale is a very satisfying conclusion that does a superb job tying up all of the loose ends.

Performance wise, the entire cast are all very good in their respective roles. With this film’s standout performance being Jin-woong Jo (The Handmaiden, Assassination) in the role of a doctor named Seung-hoon, who life is turned upside down after he accidentally her details about a serial killers crimes. He delivers an utterly convincing portrayal of a man who loses his sense of what is real and what is a figment of his imagination. Another performance of note is Dae-Myung Kim (The Beauty Inside) in the role of Sung-geun, the son of the man who reveals his past crimes to the Doctor.

From a production standpoint, there is not an area where this film does not achieve its goals. And nowhere is more evident, then when it comes to how this film’s visuals reinforce this film’s protagonists state of mind.

The BluRay:

Bluebeard comes on a 25 GB single layer BluRay. The film is presented in a 1080 progressive widescreen. Details look crisp and there are no issues with compression. This is a very good transfer that does a great job retaining this film’s intended look.

This release comes with two audio options, a DTS-X 5.1 mix in Korean and a Dolby Digital stereo mix in Korean. The audio sounds clean, balanced and robust when it needs too. Range wise, this audio mix does a superb job reinforcing the state of mind of the protagonist. Included with this release are removable English subtitles.

Extras for this release include, trailers for Bluebeard, The Villainess, The Tunnel and Well Go USA The Best of Korean Cinema promo.

Also, included with this release is a DVD that has the same content included on the Blu-Ray included as part of this combo. Overall Bluebeard gets a solid audio / video presentation from Well Go USA.
