Blue Money was directed by Alain Patrick (Love Slaves). Key collaborators on Blue Money include, cinematographer R. Michael Stringer (Night Call Nurses, Double Exposure) and filmmaker / producer Bob Chinn (Young Like it Hot, Sweet Young Foxes).
Though there have been many movies that have chronicled the lives of those who have worked in the X-rated film industry. Most notable films like Boogie Nights and Exhausted: John C. Holmes, the Real Story being two of the more well-known examples. These weren’t the first and most likely the last word on this subject. With one of the earlier examples of a film about X-Rated cinema being Blue Money.
The film’s narrative about the rise and fall of a pornographer is superbly executed and the characters are fully fleshed out. Visually this film is at its best when during the moments that take place on the film set. And when it comes to the sex scenes this film does a good job pushing the envelope. Performance wise the cast are good in their respective roles. With this film’s most surprising performance being Barbara Mills (Class of ’74, Keys) in the role of the protagonists wife. Ultimately Blue Money well made film that fans of erotica and classic adult cinema should get the most mileage out of it.
Blue Money comes on a 50 GB dual layer BluRay. The film is presented in a 1080 progressive widescreen. For this new release a brand new 2K transfer has been created and the end result is a transfer the is superior in every way to all previous home video releases. This is a well authored disc, grain remains intact and there are no issues with DNR or compression. It should be noted that this film is presented fully uncut for the first ever on home video.
Extras for this release include, reversible cover art, a promotional stills gallery, a trailer for the film (1 minute 49 seconds), an interview with producer / filmmaker Bob Chinn (13 minutes 47 seconds) and a bonus feature film also directed by Alain Patrick (73 minutes 19 seconds).
Topics discussed in the interview with Bob Chinn include, how he went to UCLA film school, his origins as a filmmaker, how he worked his way up in the adult film industry, Alain Patrick and their various collaborations, how pornography was at that time illegal, Blue Money and wanting to make a faithful account of the industry, the cast and Crown International.
Also included with this release is a DVD that has the same content included on the Blu-Ray included as part of this combo. Overall Blue Money makes its way to HD via a solid release from Vinegar Syndrome.
