Though this film’s initial setup has all the ingredients would except from an action film, most notably a high-octane shootout. After the dust settles and this film quickly transitions towards a melodrama whose Macguffin is an elaborate heist. With that being, this is a film that is ultimately anchored by its characters and just how much one gets out of this film, depends on said acceptance of characters.
Performance wise the cast are very enjoyable in their respective roles. With this film’s standout performances being Kate Nhung in the role of Dada, a disgraced detective who sees her only way of catching the ever elusive ‘The Ghost” is by teaming up with criminals and Suboi in the role of Vi, a hacker whose brother was shot and left in a coma by one of “The Ghost’s” assassins.
Unfortunately, there is one performance that misses the mark and that would be Thanh Pham in the role of Phúc, an accountant who holds the key to catching and uncovering who “The Ghost” is? Out of all of this film’s character it is his journey that proves to be the most complex and his evolution as a character falls apart at the seams by the films finale act.
From a production standpoint, though there are many elements that work throughout this film. The end result is film that travels all too familiar territory and nowhere is more evident than in its all too predictable conclusion.
Bitcoin Heist comes on a 25 GB single layer BluRay. The film is presented in a 1080 progressive widescreen. Colors and flesh tones look accurate, black levels remain strong throughout, the image looks sharp and there are no issues with compression.
This release comes with two audio options, a DTS-HD 5.1 mix in Vietnamese and a Dolby Digital stereo mix in Vietnamese. Both audio mixes sound, clean, dialog always comes through clearly and balanced throughout. The more ambient aspects of these mixes are well represented and range wise both sound robust when they need too. Included with this release are removable English subtitles.
Extras for this release include trailers for Bitcoin Heist, The Final Master, Three and Beyond Redemption.
Also, included with this release is a DVD that has the same content included on the Blu-Ray included as part of this combo.
Overall Bitcoin Heist gets a solid audio / video presentation from Well Go USA.
