There was a time when adult cinema was taboo and just beyond the fringe of the mainstream. Back then there was a mystic to those who performed in adult cinema. That has all but vanished due to the proliferation of the product in the internet age. There is so much pornography on the internet that you are bound to stumble across some with relative ease. Besides flooding the market with product. Another area in which today’s talent differs from the aforementioned Golden age of adult cinema. Thanks to the internet there is a wealth of information about today’s performers, who all seemed more concerned about creating their own brand and to hell with creating anything with substance. Also with each new format Beta, VHS, Laserdisc, DVD and now Blu-Ray. There has been a shift towards revealing the inner workings of a production. While most of these behind the scenes glimpses are nothing more than fluff PR pieces. There is a rare occasion when one of them offers something that diverges from the rest of the pack. This brings us to Behind the XXXa documentary that promises to show the viewer what it is like on the set of an adult film. In this regard the film does succeed. Unfortunately the end result is a rather bland experience that is mostly comprised of onset footage and footage from photo shoots. What little banter that does occur throughout this documentary reveals little about the performers or the inner workings of an adult film. And while I was not expecting an in depth expose about what it is like to work in the Adult film industry. I was still expecting more than a few strung together behind the scene segments.

The DVD:

Behind the XXX is presented in an anamorphic widescreen that preserves the film’s original aspect ratio. This documentary was shot on video and looks as good as one would expect considering the limitations of the source. It should be noted that there are some flaws that are more inherent with the transfer and not the source. Like mild instances of combing and noticeable edge enhancement throughout.

This release comes with one audio option, a Dolby Digital stereo mix in English. There are no major issues with background noise. Also the volume of the dialog tends to fluctuate and there are some minor instances of distortion.

Extras for this release are limited to a promo clip for other Brookland Bros. Entertainment releases. Overall Behind the XXX gets a sub par audio / video presentation from Brookland Bros. Entertainment.
