Where the 1970’s saw adult cinema rise from being quickly shot productions into films that rivaled for main stream audiences attention like Deep Throat and The Opening of Misty Beethoven. By the 1980’s adult cinema that at time had aspirations of creating something more than just sex films had already begun to retreat. Also the days of shooting with film were numbered as making feature films shoot on video were just around the corner.

With that being said, those there was a definite climate change going on within the adult film industry. There are always those who go against the grain and in this case of the films which make up this collection, that person would be filmmaker Phil Prince. His all too brief career would only span three year and encompass fourteen films. Also every film he made would be distributed by the same company Avon Productions, a New York based company that had several theaters that they owned. Prince and a handful of other filmmakers would make films that were shown in one of Avon’s theaters.

Content wise, the product that was being shown at the Avon theaters was not your run of the mill stuff that the raincoat theater crowd had become accustomed too. It was down and dirty sex with an emphasis on pain is pleasure. Also when it came to the aesthetic look of these films they had a griminess to them that was in direct contrast to what was the norm in the adult industry at the time.

Here synopsis for the three films which make up this collection.

Savage Sadists: Two gunmen hold a pornographers wife and his mistress hostage, while they try to locate him and collect the money he owes their boss.

Den of Dominance: A man goes to a bar looking for a good time and to his surprise said bar is an S & M club in disguise.

Daughters of Discipline: Two sisters discover their parents’ stash of S & M magazines. Turned on by what they have just seen they then invite a male friend over to act as their S & M slave. Unfortunately their night of debauchery is interrupted by their parents who have come home early. Fortunately for them their punishment is in the form of S & M.

First off, this type of adult cinema is most definitely an acquired taste. In regards to narrative / plot for these three films, they keep things basic with the emphasis on the S & M being the main attraction. The weakest of these three plot wise is the second film titled Den of Dominance and it has an air of fantasy to the story at hand that the other two films do not have. In a nutshell it lacks the nasty edge which drives the other two films.

For some viewers the opening film Savage Sadist may be a bit too much since its features the use of a gun. While the third film Daughters of Discipline delves into the taboo area of incest. Needless to say, these films were made for those wanting something beyond the fringe and in this regards, all three films succeed.

The DVD:

For this release ultra-rare 16mm archival elements was scanned and restored in 2K. Also three films are presented in their intended 1.33:1 aspect ratio. All things put into perspective it is hard to imagine that these films could ever look any better than they do for this release.

Each film comes with one audio option each, a Dolby Digital mono mix in English. All audio for this release sounds clean, clear and balanced throughout.

This release comes with no extra content. Just a menu that allows you play each film individually or via their chapter selections. Overall another strong release from Vinegar Syndrome.
