Though there have and will always be films that mix genres. Trying to pull off such a feat can often prove to be a very difficult endeavor. Case in point, a film like Amsterdamned that perfectly fuses elements from the Slasher and police procedural sub-genres.

The premise is well executed and pacing is not an issue as this move along at a break neck momentum. The characters are one-dimensional caricatures and the performances are best described as adequate. With this film’s standout performance being Huub Stapel in the role of this film’s protagonist, a hard boiled detective named Eric Visser.

Not to be overlooked when discussing this film is the role that the city of Amsterdam plays in the story at hand. And nowhere is more evident, then when it comes to this film’s visuals, which take full advantage of Amsterdam’s iconic canals. Other areas where this film excels include, it’s action set pieces and kills scenes. With this film’s standout moment being, a chase scene in speed boats in the aforementioned canals.
