The screenplay for Alice in Wasteland was written by screenwriter/director Michele Pacitto who other films include American Punks and Dracula’s Dirty Daughter. Alice in Wasteland was co-directed by Pete Schuermann who had previously worked with Michele Pacitto on Dracula’s Dirty Daughter as that film’s editor. The most impressive part of this film is that the bulk of the cast & crew had very little in any prior filmmaking experience.
The visual style for Alice in Wasteland has a 1970’s action/exploitation feel to it. The violence in the film is done in a tongue and cheek way that lends itself to Alice’s ever evolving nightmare. The film is filled with larger than life characters like a psycho path cop named Jill Robbe who is so hell bent on capturing Alice, that she kills anyone who gets in her way. Other colorful characters are a pimp named Ramrod and a Swedish femme fatale who steals every scene she is in. Performance wise all of the cast dive in head over heels into their respective roles. The cast’s gung ho attitude towards the material is infectious. Ultimately Alice in Wasteland is a solid exploitation film that plays to its strengths guns, girls and mayhem.
Alice in Wasteland is presented in an anamorphic widescreen that preserves the film’s original aspect ratio. Overall this is a clean looking transfer that has nicely saturated colors, healthy flesh tones and details look crisp throughout.
This release comes with one audio option a Dolby Digital stereo mix in English. The audio is in great shape with no audio defects and the audio mix really shines during action sequences.
Extras for this release include a trailer for Alice in Wasteland and two trailers/shorts titled Moses 2000 and Jimmy Hits the Big Town! Moses 2000 is a superhero themed story in which the biblical Moses and his crime fighting sidekicks take on Rameses and his evil minions. Jimmy Hits the Big Town! Is a cautionary tale about the dangers of moving to the big city and being corrupted by homosexuality! Both of these shorts are told in a similar tongue and cheek style that is employed in Alice in Wasteland. The main extra included with this release is an audio commentary with director Pete Schuermann, actress Roxane Sondrup and co-editor/composer David Wruck. Overall Alice in Wasteland makes its way to DVD via first rate DVD release from Monster Zero Creative.
