Afternoon Delights and Slave of Pleasure were written and directed by Shaun Costello, who is most for directing the notorious adult film Water Power. Some of his other notable films as a director include, Forced Entry, The Passions of Carol, Dominatrix of Mercy and More Then Sisters.
Afternoon Delights: Five men decide to spice up their weekly poker night by anonymously revealing stories of sexual indiscretions of their ex-wives.
The five vignettes that make up the bulk of this film’s narrative include, an ex-wife whose boredom leads to a ménage a trio with construction workers, an ex-wife who is taken advantage while under anesthesia by a hygienist and a dentist, an ex-wife who engages in a gang bang at an XXX movie theater, an ex-wire who leads a secret life as a dominatrix and an ex-wife who continues her aspirations as an actress by appearing in XXX film.
Visually this film does not miss a beat and nowhere is this more evident, than when it comes to the sex scenes. There are seven sex scenes and all of the sex scenes deliver an ample amount of heat. With this film’s standout moments being the scenes at the dentist office and XXX movie theater.
Another strength of this film are the performances of its cast. With this film’s most memorable performance being Vanessa Del Rio (Babylon Pink) in the role of an ex-wife who goes to a XXX theater dressed like a man and once she becomes aroused she reveals that she is a woman in disguise and the gang bang ensues. Another performance of note is Veronica Hart (Neon Nights) in the role of the ex-wife who pretends that she is under anesthesia while a dentist and his assistant ravage her.
Slave of Pleasure: The mistress of a man who she is having an affair with makes a deal with white slave traders to kidnap his wife.
Slave of Pleasure is the third of three films directed by Shaun Costello that feature the fictional hard-boiled detective Dan McCord. The other two films that round out this trilogy include, Dirty Susan and The Fire in Francesca.
Content wise, this film draws inspiration from Hollywood detective films from the 1940’s. The performances do a good job moving the narrative forward. With this film’s standout performance being Jamie Gillis (The Opening of Misty Beethoven, Corruption) in the role of Henri Picard, a Frenchman whose white slave ring abducts American housewives. Another performance of note is C.J. Laing (Barbara Broadcast) in the role of Barbara Benedict, the woman who is having an affair with the husband of the wife, who is abducted by the white slave traders.
This film has eight sex scenes and they are all well executed. With the standout sex scenes being, the scene where a friend with information about the abducted wife, reveals to his detective friend how they turn the abducted housewives into nymphomaniacs. And a S & M scene with Barbara Benedict, who the white slave traders now view as a liability.
Both films are presented in their intended aspect ratios. And both transfers were sourced from 35mm archival elements. Print related damage is minimal and never intrusive. The image looks crisp, colors and flesh tones look accurate, black levels fare well and there are no issues with compression.
Each film comes with one audio option, a Dolby Digital mono mix in English. Background noise is minimal, dialog is clear and everything sounds balanced.
Extras for this release include, a trailer for Afternoon Delights and audio commentaries with director Shaun Costello for both films.
Both audio comments are insightful and detailed accounts of those who were involved in the ‘Making of’ these two films. And both audio commentaries are filled with informative information about the adult film industry during its Golden Age. Other topics include, background information about Afternoon Delights theme song and other music that appears in both films, locations, the cast, how he got into the adult film industry and how he made the transition from actor to directing.
Overall another strong double feature release from Vinegar Syndrome.
